More Thoughts on Social Media
From the second I started learning about social media as a marketing tool I began to see the potential. But it’s been these few weeks since that I have truly awakened to the full potential of social media and the complete game changer that it is. For example, I was a breakfast the other morning with Sarah and two friends of ours Bruce and Coleen. We were talking about all kinds of things as we often do at our breakfast outings, but then the topic got on outrageous labor rates of some sneaky carpenters. Bruce is a carpenter by trait (specializing in cabinet making) but he considers himself an honest one so he had a lot to say on the subject.
All of a sudden I found myself going on about how he should blog about it. Now at first he was a little confused but I explained how he could establish his brand as being the honest and talented carpenter. He could blog about unscrupulous practices in the industry, that carpenter who just ripped off someone he knows, or how he would do it better and more honestly. On top of that he could post video showing how he builds different things, and the quality he puts into his work. Of course he would have to put time into promoting himself and his blog using other social media but this would establish him as an expert in his field and grow his family business. Of course there was a lot more ideas discussed on the subject but I think you get the idea.
Now he is still not sure if this is truly his passion in life but he definably has something to think about now. He also now realizes that no matter what he decides is his passion he can use whatever tools are available to self promote himself and do what he is passionate about. I am truly excited about the playing field that social media has given us and I am more than ready to play the game.
You’re totally right.
Anyone can and should start a blog.
I keep thinking that blogs are somehow limited to multimedia specialists, but you’re completely right that anyone in any profession can benefit from promoting their personal brand.
@mlavgn I find it interesting that all you have to do is pick a profession and spend a few minutes thinking creatively and outside the box and you can come up with a fistful of reasons for them to promote themselves online.
And then you find that you start to have fun thinking of the different ways in which they can promote themselves and what they would or could blog about. Mediums that may apply to them or their profession or interest also start to present themselves.
Embrace something new and start thinking accordingly and people can really change things for themselves if they are willing!
